Three swimmers are expected to shine at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi are Matthew Abeysinghe, Conrad Francis and Heshan Unamboowe in their respective events.

Abeysinghe who trained in the USA is expected to maintain a high standard in the 100m, 200 and 400 metres free style events.

Conrad Francis who is also trained overseas, is expected to perform well in the 50m, 100m butterfly stroke and in the 50m breaststroke events.

Unamboowe is a backstroke specialist and is also expected to shine in the 50m, 100m backstroke events and the 50m freestyle event.

The three women swimmers are Kaushalya Weerathunga, Sachini Amarasinghe and Lihini Dias who will be swimming in the short distance events. There is very little difference between them and could face stiff opposition at the Games.

Two members will participate in synchronised swimming events. They are Elisha Gomes and Piyumi Katipearachchi who possess the much needed experience having participated at the Doha Asian Games as well.

However, competition is very high at the Commonwealth Games with Australian swimmers expected to dominate in the absence of China and USA at the meet.

Squad:

Heshan Unamboowe, Matthew Abeysinghe, Conrad Francis, Kaushalya Weerathunga, Sachini Amarasinghe and Lihini Dias.

Synchronised swimming: Elisha Mayanka Gomes and Piyumi Dehara Katipearachchi.

Officials: Sugath Hewage, Mohamed Nawaff and Nayana Kanthipearachchi.
