The inaugural Invitational Schools Squash Tournament organised by the Old Boys’ Association (OBA) of Nalanda College will begin on December 3 at their newly opened squash courts.

This tournament will be conducted with the blessings of the Sri Lanka Squash Federtion (SLSF) and will see six schools participating. The schools that have accepted the invitation to participate are, D.S. Senanayake, St. Sylvester's, Kandy , S. Thomas’, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph ’s and hosts Nalanda College . Each team should consist of at least four players.

Only one girls’ school responded to the invitation thus compelling organizers not conduct a tournament for girls.

The tournament will be sponsored by Stafford Motors.

Vice President of the Nalanda OBA, Rear Admiral (Retd) Sarath Ratnakeerthi said that the competition was being staged to promote the sport among the students of Nalanda.

This event is a positive move towards promoting the game among the school children and uplifting the standard among the young players.

Nalanda’s squash court was donated by an old boy Kassappa Mahendra de Silva and was declared open by president Mahinda Rajapaksa on October 26, last year.

Entries for the event are still open and interested schools can register at Nalanda College .

The champions in each group will be awarded certificates and medals. The allround champion school will be awarded with the Nalanda Senior Old Boys Challenge Trophy.
