Sri Lanka boys team lose twice in league round

Sri Lanka’s boys’ team could not keep up with their winning streak and lost the two remaining encounters in the league stage at the 15th Asian Junior Team Squash Tournament continued at the Air Force base squash complex in Ratmalana today.

 

Having lost to top seed Pakistan on Thursday night, the Sri Lanka boys team lost to Malaysia by three matches to nil..Gihan Suwaris went down to Muhammed Zul Azi in straight sets in the first match, 9/11, 1/11, 8/11.

Dilshan Gunawardena also lost badly to Sanjay Singhe Chal in straight sets. The scores were 0/11, 2/11, 4/11.

Only Binura Jayasuriya offered some resistance before going down fighting to Mohammed Abdeen in a five-setter game. Jayasuriya won the first and third sets but could not win just one more set to clinch the match. Abdeen won with scores of 8/11, 11/5, 4/11, 11/6, 11/5.

Earlier they lost to Pakistan by three matches to nil. Binura Jayasuriya, Ravindu Laksiri and Dilshan Gunawardena all lost in straight sets with only Laisiri able to obtain up to seven points in the third set.

With these two losses the Sri Lanka boys’ team finished fourth and played against Japan for the fifth and six places.

Sri Lanka’s girls lost all their matches after they lost to China by two matches to one in their final league fixture. Only Naduni Gunawardena received a walk-over to give Sri Lanka the only win.

Sri Lanka’s girls finished fourth in their group and played against Iran for the seventh and eighth places.

The finals will be played this evening from 4.30 p.m.onwards.Ship Agents pad up in cricket contest

Fifty men’s teams and twenty women’s teams will be participating in the CASA Six-a-side cricket tournament to be conducted for the 13th consecutive year at the NCC ground Maitland Place on February 5 and 6.

CASA Cricket Tournament is an exclusive event in the Ships’ Agents Industry, which has gained popularity over the years. There will also be Junior and

Senior Staff Members of all CASA Member Companies participating with great enthusiasm and true fellowship. In addition, invitees representing various Government Organizations and Mercantile Firms too will attend the two day event.
