India, Hong Kong clinch Asian Team Squash titles
India shocked Pakistan by two games to one in the boys’ final to take the Asian Junior Team Squash Tournament crown on the final day at the Air Force Base Squash Complex Ratmalana on Saturday.
Hong Kong girls also created an upset when they defeated Malaysia by two matches to nil in the girls’ final to take the girls’ title.
Danish Khan took the first match from Ramit Random to give Pakistan the initiative booster. He won in straight sets 7/11, 11/6, 9/11, 11/8, 11/9.
However, the other two Indian players had other ideas and won their matches to clinch the title for India. Mahesh Margaonkar beat Sadam Ul Haq 11/7, 11/2, 11/6 and Abhishek Pradhan beat Nisiri Iqbal 11/4, 11/7, 11/3.
The first two matches in the girl’s final was won by Hong Kong and was enough to give them the title. Tong Tsz Wing beat Tan Yan Xin 11/5, 11/8, 11/7 while Ho Ka Po beat Vanessa Raj 11/2, 11/7, 13/11.
Sri Lanka’s boys’ team finished in sixth place when they lost to Japan in the play off for fifth and sixth place.
Only Gihan Suwaris won his match in a four setter while Dilshan Gunawardena and Binura Jayasuriya lost to their opponents.
The Sri Lankan girls’ finished in seventh place when they beat Iran by two matches to nil in the play-off for seventh and eighth places.
Nadindi Udangawe and Naduni Gunawardane won their matches while Sharya Guruge did not have to play.
