Dilshan should take responsibility as opener

Selecting Tilakaratne Dilshan to open batting for Sri Lanka in the crucial games is a costly affair, as he doesn't seem to understand the importance and the responsibility of an opening batsman. He is like a cat on a hot bricks; he is trying to go after the bowling not understanding the nature of the wicket and not correctly knowing the ability of the bowler.

In a very important match where his responsibility is most needed he is playing like a toddler. It is high time the. national selectors make note of it and bring in a player who takes more responsibility and not play adventurous shots and come to the dressing room in the first over itself. Thanks we have a batsman like Kumar Sangakkara at No 3 to repair the damage and hold the ends. Can he do this all the time?

Tilakaratne Dilshan presently playing six-a-side cricket not a 50 over World Cup cricket. He needs to understand his own temperament whether he is fit to be an opening batsman. If you are selected to open for Sri Lankan in the future games please understand your responsibility for the team. Without selecting adventurous shots and depart in the first over itself.

I am writing this without malice and prejudice for the good of Sri Lanka Cricket as a very experienced former….. opening batsman. If we build the correct temperament we will be the World Cricket Champions.

Good luck for Sri Lanka team in the World Cup 2011.
