The seventh annual big match between Royal College Wayamba and Sir John Kotalawala M.V. Kurunegala will be played at the Welagedera stadium on March 25 and 26.
Led by allrounder Dileepa Navaratne, Wayamba Royal is a well balanced outfit this season. Navaratne has scored two hundreds and two fifties this season. He has also captured 18 wickets with his right arm medium pace bowling. Vice captain Tarindra Ekanayake is also in good form. He has scored 280 runs and also captured 22 wickets in the ongoing season. Hasanka Lahiru is the leading batsman of the side with 334 runs while co-opener Tanuja Wimalasuriya has scored 442 runs.
Wayamba Royal were promoted to the division II cricket tournament this season. They played six matches and gained one outright victory over Carey College. They amuased 422 for 9 against Dharmaloka M.V. Kelaniya in a tournament match. Skipper Navaratne (120) and Tanuja Wimalasuriya (114) put on 240 runs for the second wicket in that high scoring encounter.
The bowling department will be spearheaded by skipper Navaratne, right arm medium pacer Tarindra Ekanayake with leg spinner Yasith Herath and 15 year old Kavimal Sirisena. The team is coached by Saman de Silva.
Sir John Kotalawela M.V. is led by all rounder Avishka Ratnayake this season. He opens the batting with Dananjaya Liyanage. D.B. Rajapasha, M.K.M Wasim and S.W. Dissanayake are the other leading run scores this season.
Left arm off spinner D.B Rajapaksha is the main wicket taker this year with 21 scalps to his credit. Spinners W.R.M Rodrigo and Avishka Ratnayake could be a big threat to their opponents.
They are coached by former Maliyadeva College allrounder Tusitha Herath.
This year they have played only four games and posted three victories over Kuliyapitiya MMV and Sri Sumangala M.V.
This series stared in 2004 and since then all matches have been drawn.
