A masterpiece riding by Indian jockey M.D. Shoaib saw Cafe Coffee brush aside his opponents to clinch the biggest horse racing event of Sri Lanka the Governor’s Cup held at Nuwara Eliya horse racing track on Sunday.

The much looked forward to event was conducted by the Sri Lanka Turf Club and sponsored by Korea Racing Authority and Purie International Group who are coming forward for the first time.

The horse coming from the Jayaratne stables gave one of the family members Nirasha its first success in this prestigious racing event held over 100 years and the jockey Shoaib too giving him success in his first ever ride of the Governor’s Cup. A beaming Nirasha who took the prestigious Governor’s Cup and a cash award of Rs. 150,000/- from chief guest Chang Gi Lee, CEO of Purie International was so excited and mentioned that she never expected her horse to win the big event but he won. There was much expectation from the two horses of the stables of Isira Dassanayake who came second and third but the handling of the winning horse by jockey Shoaib was too much for the others to cope with.
