Bandara bags Marathon title for 11th time
Ace runner Ajith Bandara won his 11th title at the National Sports Festival Marathon held at Puttalam on Saturday. His timing was not all that impressive though, Bandara had an easy race and the aging ace from Sri Lanka Army didn't disappoint his fans and supporters. Bandara has lost this event only once in the last eight years and he has shown his class in various parts of the island. However, his time at Puttalam was the worst ever recorded by him in this event, as a winner.
The previous year winner, B. G. L. Anuradhi of Sri Lanka Navy, kept the lead in the women's event for almost three quarter of the race but Manjula Kumarasinghe came from behind to snatch a win in the last few Kilometers. Kumarasinghe, representing the Western Province, clocked 2 hours and 56 minutes, which was the best timing for the event in the last 14 years.
