Off spinner Sachitra Senanayake will replace Ajantha Mendis for the remaining three One Day Internationals against South Africa in South Africa.

Ajantha Mendis will return to Sri Lanka due to a back injury and will not be available for the remainder of the series. Sachitra Senanayake will take wing to South Africa immediately.

A media release from Sri Lanka Cricket revealed that the Minister of Sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, has approved Sachitra Senanayake as the replacement player for injured Ajantha Mendis. Senanayake is yet to wear the national cap in any version of International cricket.

He should have been in the Team very much earlier than this for his consistent performances in the Domestic scene since 2006. Malinda Pushpakumara (a top grade left-arm spinner with an 1st Class Bow. Ave,of 18+) , Umesh Karunarathna (theBest Schoolboy Cricketer 2008 anAll-Rounder a consistent Performer at Domestic Level) Angelo Perera (theBest Schoolboy batsman 2009,Highest Run getter in the U23 tournaments , The Best Batsman at the SAARC T/20 Tournament) Bhanuka Rajapaksha ( (theBest Schoolboy Cricketer 2010&2011 and one of the 3 best batsmen in the Youth WC 2010). All these players are good enough to replace all aging under performing seniors in the Team.

Good to see another spinner is introduced whom Protoes would not know and he was knocking on the door for several years despite performing well in the domestic circle in numerous occasion.

We wonder why a leg spinner is not selected and we have one good leggie who is playing county cricket and not selected in the national side and he is a player who should play for Sri Lanka very regularly but that is not the case with the SLC.

it’s high time to SLC to think about him as still he has 4-5 years cricket left and also find good bowlers to compete in the international circuit.
