Renown Sports Club beat Nandimithra comfortably by three goals to nil in the Dialog Champions League second round soccer encounter played at the City Football Complex on Saturday.

Nandimithra forwards should be blamed for this loss as they missed several chances including two sitters in the second half which could have changed the course of the game.

The leading scorer for Nandimithra, Nuwan Priyankara was the culprit as he missed a very easy chance just a foot away from the goal mouth. Anil Shantha and skipper Dilhan de Silva were the others who failed to deliver the goods as their kicks were off target.

This victory has boosted the chances of Renown and if they continue winning they might vie for the championship. For Renown Mohammed Zain opened scoring in the 32nd minute, and during injury time of the first half skipper M. Anam banged in the second goal for Renown from close range.

After the turn around in the 52nd minute of the game Dimuthu Priyadharshana scored a beauty for Renown as he sliced the ball with a header off a free kick from Chatura Gunaratne from outside the box.

From here onwards it was Nandimithra who started attacking but to no avail. In another match played at Kalutara, Blue Star managed to hold Java Lane to a one-all draw.
