Fifth Battle of the Hindus drawn

The 5th Battle of the Hindus between Jaffna Hindu and Kokuvil Hindu – a two day encounter ended in a high scoring draw at the Kokuvil grounds on Saturday. Jaffna Hindu made the highest total in the series by scoring 316 for 8 declared in their first innings in reply to their counterparts first innings score of 275 all out.

V. Jasminan, a promising athlete from Jaffna Hindu scored a brilliant 127 to record the highest individual score in the series. He is the second centurion in the series after P. Pangujan who scored 101 in last year’s encounter. Jasminan along with opener G. Mathushan (64) shared 118 runs for the fourth wicket. Skipper Kirushoban also contributed with a well compiled 66.

Pangujan who captains Kokuvil Hindu this year was unlucky not to have scored back to back centuries as he missed it by two runs.  He scored 98 in the first innings and he was ably supported by K. Ragulan (37) and K Januthas who chipped in with 61.  Kokuvil Hindu was 265 for 8 when stumps were drawn in their second innings. K. Ragulan (82) and his younger brother K. Silojan (44) put on 103 for the fourth wicket. L. Athiththan also contributed with a sedate 47.
