Rain a spoiler at Peradeniya- Match to be replayed
Heavy rain which came down in torrents put paid to any chances of a decision in the schools under 19 limited over cricket tournament match between Dharmaraja College and St. Thomas College, Matale which was abandoned at the University grounds, Peradeniya yesterday.
The Thomians batting first were dismissed for 126 in 47.1 overs but they did well in defending this small total by having the Rajans reeling at 12 for 3 when rain stopped play around 3 p.m.
For the Matale Thomians skipper Shehan Wijetunga made a fine 50 which included three hits to the ropes and another three over it to collect 30 runs in six balls. But surprisingly he faced a further 68 balls in scoring the balance 20 runs. In all he faced 74 balls.
This match will be replayed at a future date and depending on the result, one of the teams will have to move to the next stage of the tournament.
