Two leading schools in Dematgagoda will clash in their annual Battle of Dematagoda scheduled to be played at Bloomfield ground in Reid Avenue. This will be the 41st in the series which in fact was not played from 1977 to 2006 during which time the match was played over two days. Since the revival in 2006 the match was played as a limited over encounter and they hope to make it a two day encounter in the future.
St Mathew’s leads the tally in the two day encounter with 28 wins to their credit as against two by St John’s. After the revival in 2006 the two teams have played six matches with St John’s leading securing two wins having won in 2006 and last year while St Mathew’s won in 2010 and the rest draw being washed out by rain.
St Mathew’s will be led by Harsha Dilip Kumar and St John’s by Salman Ramzeen. St John’s who were the winners last year will no doubt go all out to make a repeat and take the lead while St Mathew’s will be looking forward to make it two each.
