Shiromala wins bronze at Asian Boxing C’ship

Shiromala Weeraratne was the only Sri Lankan woman boxer to win a bronze medal at the Asian Boxing championship which was held in Mongolia.

Shiromala fought in the Welter weight under 69 kilograms category. She is a product from the Sri Lanka Police Force. She lost to the Indian boxer in the semi-final.

Anusha Kodituwakku the boxer with lot of international experience failed to make her way into the ring in the welter weight category due to an injury caused while in Mongolia.

The other boxers from Sri Lanka Nilmini Jayasinghe, Sithari Sandalekha, Kosala Nilmini and Vidhusika Prasadi were eliminated in the first round bouts.

Seventeen countries including, China, India, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and the host country Kazakhstan competed in the Asian Boxing Championship.
