Ibbagamuwa Central College scored a smashing first innings win over Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala to remain in the Division II of the schools under 19, in the relegation match played at Ibbagamuwa yesterday. It was a sad day for Wayamba Royal College who in a desperate bid to remain in the Division II of the schools cricket tournament even changed their regular coach Sampath Silva and brought in a new coach for this match.

It turned out to be like changing horses mid streams as they were skittled out for a paltry 42 in reply to Ibbagamuwa total of 171 all out and this blew up all their chances. Ibbagamuwa taking first strike made 171 all out with Yasitha Basnayake making 58 with 8 fours. Y. Herath took 5 for 46. Wayamba Royal College chasing this total were skittled out for 42 against the pace of Shehan Dharmapriya 5 for 20 and left arm spin of Chamila Chandrasiri 4 for 16.

Five batsmen registered ducks. Following on they fared much better in scoring 194 for 9 with Tharindu Ekanayake hitting an aggressive 76 with 4 fours and 5 sixes which saved them from an outright defeat. Left arm spinner Chamila Chandrasiri once again bowled well to capture 5 for 49 giving him a match bag of 9 for 65. With this defeat Wayamba Royal College move down to Division III of this tournament.
