Pelicans Sports Club, Kurnegalle scored a massive 18 goals to nil victory overinexperienced Fordyce Sports Club form Dickoya in the first round of the HolcimFA Cup 2012 knock-out soccer match played at Maligapitiya grounds on Saturday.
This is a new record for the highest goals scored by a club this seasoneclipsing the 15 goals scored by Solid Sports Club of Anuradhapura againstEagle SC of Trincomalee a week ago.
Strengthened by three Lyberians, Pelicans were too strong as their players simplymade inroads into the opponent’s territory and scored at will.
Patrick Wilson and Collin both from Lyberia scored 6 and 2 goals respectively.Former skipper of the side Gihan Sirisena found the net on four occasions andDhammika Ekanayaka scored a hat-trick of goals. S. Saranraj (2) and A. A. S.Kumara (1) also scored for the winners.
Meanwhile Thunders Sports Club of Wennappuwa expressed their dismay over therefereeing in the match against Maroon Sports Club played at Gampaha.
Maroon SC scored an easy 6-nil win over Thunders in this encounter.
The Secretary of Thunders T. H. S. A. Perera told 'Mirror Online' that the refereewas bias and he never bothered about the unlawful manner of the opposingplayers. He also told that he had informed about this to the President of theWennappuwa Football League and he would bring this matter to the notice of theFFSL.

Another club from Hatton Football League, Renown SC got the better of MawanellaSC on (3-1) penalties after the match ended in a goalless draw.
