Cavalry Super Cross attracts over 150 participants
The third annual Cavalry Super Cross organized by the Sri Lanka Army Armoured Corp and conducted by the Sri Lanka Association for Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) will take place at the Pangolla circuit on Sunday (June 3) commencing at 8.30 a.m. The timing and practices are scheduled for Saturday.
The meet will see around 72 drivers and 92 riders who have registered themselves to participate. The points gained by the winners at this meet will be considered for the National Championship for the year 2012.
A total of 11 motor cycle events and 13 events for cars are listed in the day’ program. All leading drivers and riders who are vying for the national championship will provide all the thrills and spills for the spectators usually expected from a motor racing meet as they will go all out to win their respective events.
According to the organizers three foreign riders are expected to take part and they will definitely pose a big challenge to the local riders of the caliber of Gayan Sandaruwan and Shehan C. Adikari who is an up and coming young rider. The Indian riders in the recent past have put immense pressure on the local riders.
The most interesting event for cars will be the SL-GT Cars upto 3500cc where the leaders in this category Dinesh Deheragoda, Aravinda Premadasa, Ashan Silva and Pasindu Peiris compete for supremacy as they are fighting for the most prestigious championship. In this class the other drivers Reyaz Farook, Rizvy Farook and Janaka Dias are capable of creating an upset.
In other classes Upulwan Serasinghe, Chaminda Weerasooriya, Dilan Seneviratne, Dilan Perera, Harsha Panduwawala, S.A. Harsha, Dhammika Peiris, W.M.K. Wickramasinghe, K. Balasingham, Yoga Perera and the only lady driver S.A. Lakshika will battle it out to gain prominence.
The proceeds gained out of this race will be utilized for the development work of the Regiment and for the welfare families of the soldiers’ who sacrificed their lives and also for the disabled soldiers of the Armoured Corp during the ethnic war.
The main sponsors for the event are CEAT Kelani Sri Lanka while the co-sponsors are Singer Sri Lanka, Bank of Ceylon, Browns Power MartLitro Gas and Ottobock Health Care.
