HNB retain title for third year

HNB led by Wendal La Brooy retained the MCA Over 40 “Sixes” title for the third successive year, beating the debutants, Commercial Bank in the Final at the C.W. Mackie PLC sponsored, SCAN “Sunquick” Trophy Tournament concluded at the MCA grounds on Sunday.

Runners-up Commercial Bank making their first appearance, led by Neil de Silva, beat Singer Sri Lanka and Lanka Bell in the preliminaries and beat Glaxo SmithKline, another new comer in the Semi Final.

HNB held a distinct advantage as the average age of their team, was 43, while Commercial Bank’s average age was 45.

Both teams made easy passages to the final, HNB beating John Keells Group by 5 wickets

John. Keells 53/3 in 5 overs, HNB 54/1 in 3.3 overs

Commercial Bank beat Glaxo SmithKline by 63 – runs

Commercial Bank 96/0, in 05 overs, GSK 33/4 in 5 overs

Final:HNB beat Commercial Bank

HNB, 80/1 in 5 overs (Nilantha Bopage 35 rtd not out. Sajeewa de Silva 26, Manoj Perera 18 not out)

Commercial Bank 41/3 in 5 overs (Sumith Jayasena 20 not out, Ravi Udawatte 10, Manoj Perera 1/9, Varuna Waragoda 1/10, Mahesh Wijenayake 1/7)

Special Awards : Most Senior player, Kithsiri Fernando from Singer Sri Lanka (58 years), Most Number of sixes by Nilantha Bopage of HNB (07 sixes)

Best Batsman: Sumith Jayasena from Commercial Bank,

Best Bowler: Bathiya Wickramasinghe from Commercial Bank Man of the Final: Manoj Perera – HNB. At the conclusion of the tournament awards were given away by Mangala Perera , Executive Director (Chief Guest), Duminda Kothalawela, Brand Manager, Scan Products Division (both from CW Mackie PLC ), Ashley Ratnayake, Senior Vice President and Nalin Wickramasinghe
