Top riders to boycott races
Some of the leading racing riders in the country are planning to boycott the coming races according to reliable sources. The association which was formed recently has discussed these matters at length and forwarded few demands for which no response was made by the organizers. It has led them to this decision said a former rider of repute.
The Riders say that the organizers never thought of the riders difficulties and that was the reason for them to take a decision of this nature.
"The riders say that motor racing in Sri Lanka is attracting spectator interest which is only second to cricket. Whenever they organize racing events it is the riders who make a great sacrifice to attract the crowds. Their presence is the most important factor for the organizers to make millions of rupees" he said on conditions of anonymity.
The organizers of these events never care of the competitors specially the riders. When accidents happen first aid is given on the spot take them to hospitals. But that is all they get after getting the organizers to make big amounts.
At present the riders have forwarded a few demands to meet their expenses and other related matters for which no response has come in favor of them. As a result, they are planning to skip all future meets scheduled for the year.
It is high time that the governing body for the sport must look in to the grievances of these riders for the benefit of the sport. If they don’t take immediate steps many problems could arise and also bring disrepute to all involved in this thrilling sport.
