Young Shehan C Adikari on a two-wheeler performed the best to record two good wins on Sunday at the Walawe Super Cross 2012. He went on to win two major events in the absence of champion driver Gayan Sandaruwan.

Shehan got a good start and was in front with Gayan chasing up to the third lap, Gayan got the better of Shehan in the next lap and was heading for the kill when bad luck struck him and he crashed.

Taking advantage of this situation Shehan went ahead to take full control of the event and win.

The unlucky Gayan was unable to compete in race two of this event giving Shehan the chance to win race that as well and become the champion in the MX Super Cross 125cc 2/T 230cc 5/T class.

Meanwhile Upulwan Serasinghe took three titles in the Ford Laser/ Mazda 1300 and Ford Laser/Mazda 1500cc classes. Serasinghe who won pole position in all three events controlled all three races without any stiff challenge coming from his rivals.

The other driver to excel was Ashan Silva who has become a threat to all drivers in many classes won the SL-H 1600cc category. Earlier in the DL-GT 3500cc class he was placed second behind Pasindu Peiris. Taking sweet revenge Ashan came back strongly to take the second race of this class to be the champion driver. The winner in the first race of this class Pasindu Peiris had a foul start and although finishing as runner-up was disqualified. Dinesh Deheragoda was awarded second place which added more points to the leader for the championship in the category to maintain his lead.

Duminda Jayasinghe was the cynosure of all eyes. Though he was able to win a single event the Group T & J Trucks Jeeps upto 5500cc he was at his best receiving the standing ovation for his bravery in driving the Land Rover Defender with only three wheels to the finish line.  The front tyre of his land Rover burst with one lap to go and everyone expected him to pull out of the race. But that was not to be as Duminda continued with the race courageously till the finish to win it amidst cheers from around forty thousand spectators who really got the opportunity to witness a thrilling race.

Brigadier Ravi Mayadunne was the next driver to perform a double with wins in the T & J Trucks and Jeeps category. First he won the event specified for the Force Personnel and later went on to grab the title for Trucks and Jeeps Open class.

Mithum Jayasanka Sigera, the soldier also had a good day winning two events. First he grabbed the Forces Event on 125cc Motor Cross Bikes. Though he won the particular race he had to face stiff

opposition from his fellow soldiers. He followed this win with another victory in the Standard Street Trail Bikes up to 250cc and also had a podium finish when he was placed second in the MX Motor Cross Bikes up to 125cc (2/T &4/T) class which was won by Rumeisha Buultjens.

Standard Street Trail Bikes events were completely dominated by M.G.S. Sam path Kumara who also went to be on the podium twice as winner in the Standard Street Trail Bikes 250cc (2/T &4/T) and the

Street Trail Bikes Open event. The two Under 16 Championship events did not have a clear winner with

Jacques Gunewardene winning race one and the next race going to Evon B. Gurusinghe to share equal position. With this result the event is wide open with three more races left for decision before the final championship standings are decided.

Shiva Marappan won his category with ease while in the Super Moyard class it was Udika Srimal Malavige who took the honours for his classy riding. Shavindu Shenal was the winner in the under 10 event run on 50cc bikes.

In the Mini 7 category the top three finishers were disqualified by the judges as they violated the rules when they were on the starting grid and took off with a foul start. They were found guilty of the offence.

The chief guest was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt. Gen, Jagath Jayasuriya. A massive crowd witnessed top class motor racing and all credit to the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle doing a great job in association with the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Regiment.
