On June 16, 2012, under a tight packed Royal College Sports Complex, Arshad Jamaldeen’s Blue & Gold striped Royalists walked in with 7 unbeaten games under their belt, while topping the table by beating St.Peters 25-21 the previous week.
Also observed Kaneel Seneviratne’s Red, Gold & Blue striped Trinitians lining up alongside with the rivals, after beating Kingswood 30-24. The eight week of the Singer Schools rugby season, more over the Blue Ribbon event of the Island’s Sporting Calendar, saw an enormous support from both Royal and up the hills, Trinity, on its 68th annual clash for the Coveted Bradby Shield.
Kick-off took place by around 4.30pm saw both Royalists and Trinitians retaining the ball at regular intervals. It was quite a nail biting first half when Trinity led 1308 at lemons. We saw the determination of Royal, you, the Honoured Warriors of Royal Rugby in bringing back the Coveted Bradby Shield! Have no two thoughts in mind. No mercy! No surrender! Lead for nothing but victory today! No matter how bad things go, let your heart and mind carry your body even if your limbs are too weak. Get up even if you fall down and fight back till the last whistle is called. We shalt rise from the fallen! Today will be the day, not tomorrow, not next week that you re-write the history of first leg and of Bradby 2012. Don’t step out of this soil, but by giving everything you got. Do it for the proud alma mater, boys, do it for your brothers who had been in the thick and thin. You are the chosen Spartans of 8000 students at Royal College!
