Racing fan killed in 4 X 4 Challenge, Kochchikade

One spectator was killed and two other two other spectators were seriously injured during the 4X4 Challenge Race meet in Kochchikade, on Sunday. The victims were rushed to the Negombo hospital in serious condition for treatment but one had to sacrifice his life for the love of the sport. The race meet, organized by the Negombo 4X4 Club, has to be curtailed due to this incident.

The deceased body is lying at the Negombo Hospital and yet to be identified. The other two injured persons were admitted to the same hospital and one was transferred to Colombo General Hospital for further treatment.. According to witnesses, the incident took place when a jeep was stuck in a ditch where the driver could not take his vehicle out and called for help. The recovery group that was in attendance took steps to pull the vehicle out.

The recovery group was on their job to pull the vehicle out of the ditch and there were many requests from the organizers to keep away from the area which some of the onlookers did not adhere. While they were engaged in this process, one part of the Jeep that was to be pulled out broke off and hit the victim killing him on the spot according to eye witnesses. The Kochchikade police is conducting investigations about the incident .
