IAAF yet to confirm elected SLAA officials
The world governing body for athletic (IAAF) has yet not confirmed the official acceptance of the recently elected officials of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association according to reliable sources. The SLAA elected its officials on May 3 and have sent the list of Officials to the IAAF. They are expected to receive the official confirmation after the completion of the London Olympic Games scheduled to commence on July 27. SLAA held its first Ex-Co meeting on June 30 with its new President Major General Daya Ratnayake in the chair and discussed the issues at length to uplift the standard of athletics which has reached a low level.
Though the president of SLAA Major General Palitha Fernando and former Secretary of the SLA L.S. Perera were nominated by the past regime the elected Secretary Rear Admiral Shyamal Fernando will make the tour to London. The only competitor high jumper Manjula Kumara failed at the All Star Athletic Meet in Kazakhatan to achieve his best to go past the qualifying standard for the Olympic Games.
