The ’91 batch of the Dharmaraja College OBU have finalized arrangements to conduct Kandy’s immensely popular “Rally with Rajans” Motor Rally for the third consecutive year on July 14.

The rally will coincide with the school’s 125th anniversary celebration which is being celebrated this year with Singer Sri Lanka as the main sponsor with Exide and Sri Lanka Insurance as the co-sponsors.

Claiming that “there is an adventurer living within everybody”, an official of the organizing committee said that the Rally theme for 2012 is “Explore the Real You” where competitors are expected to find the track highly challenging and arduous, especially in comparison with previous years.

This years exciting rally track is expected to exceed 90 kilometers in length, with a grueling mix of both tarmac and gravel track driving. Furthermore the route of the rally will not be divulged to the competitors and they will need to navigate their way by referring to a ‘special instructions’ leaflet which will be provided on the day of the event. This year’s Rally will begin from the top floor of the Kandy Municipal Council’s (KMC) four storied car park near the Kandy City Center shopping complex and will end at Dharmaraja College’s swimming pool complex. The first Rally vehicle will be flagged off near the KMC car park at 12 noon whilst the remaining vehicles will get on track with a gap of two minutes each. All Rally drivers and navigators will be subject to a thorough medical check-up prior to the event and will be briefed on rules and conditions, time and distance calculations and appropriate safety procedures to be followed.

The awards presentation and closing ceremony will take place later in the evening at the Queen’s Hotel in Kandy, followed by dinner.

The official further added that the “Rally with Rajans” motor rally is the only annual motoring event in the Kandy region which was first organized in 2010 by the ’91 Rajans as a fund raising campaign for their Alma mater, Dharmaraja College, Kandy.

The event today is a much looked forward and has a considerable followship and enjoys high popularity amongst both professional and amateur rally drivers and sport enthusiasts.

The main aim of this year’s Rally is to raise funds for the school’s state-of-the-art Language Laboratory, estimated to cost Rs 4 million. The rally is one of many fund raising projects towards this end. For further information, please contact Asanka (0772 069 110), Ranjith (0773 373 200) or Manjula (0777 291 486).
