National Sports Festival postponed to November 30
On a request made by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association the Ministry of Sports has given the green light to postpone the 38th National Sports Festival which was scheduled for September 7, 8 and 9. This is the second occasion that the festival was postponed. Earlier it was to be held in Anuradhapura in the last week of August. The third occasion was as the Asian Netball Championship clashed with the dates of the Festival.
The SLAA has pointed out to the Ministry that it is advantageous to hold the Festival in December which could also be used as the selection trials for the South Asian Games to be held in February in New Delhi.
It also pointed out that if the Festival is held in December the sportsmen and women will not have to face another trial. This will be of immense advantage for both parties the SLAA and the participants. Accordingly the Festival is now scheduled for November 30, December 1 and 2 and will be held at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The athletes need at least one meet each in August and September. The elite athletes can be sent to the Singapore Open end of August and Thailand Open the week after and the Malaysia Open in September. The AASL could enter them with either the Ministry of Sports or the private sector sponsoring them.
