Ratnam and Navy through to semis
Ratnam Sports Club knocked-out Don Bosco Sports Club by 3 goals to 1 at Kelaniya while Sri Lanka Navy scored a thrilling one goal to nil victory over Sri Lanka Air Force at the City Football Complex in the two quarterfinals of the Holcim FA Cup played on Saturday.Don Bosco made an early mistake by conceding a penalty to Ratnam when Ravindra Lasanthe was brought down inside the box and Rowmy Mohideen made no mistake with the spot kick to put his side in the lead in the 12th minute. Thereafter it was Ratnam who dominated and went further ahead in the 30th minute with a perfect goal scored by Ravindra Lasantha in the 30th minute.
Don Bosco fought back to reduce the lead a few minutes later when Ranga Fernando slotted the ball into the goal as the Ratnam goal keeper came out too far from the goal. But Ratnam never gave up and Ravindra Lasantha scored his second goal to lead his side to the semi- final. In the other match played at the City Football Complex, Laksitha Athukorale who went in as substitute in the 65th minute scored just a few minutes from the final whistle to give the Sailors a one nil win over Airmen. After missing nearly four chances including a sitter Laksitha headed in from a difficult position after receiving a fine cross from Malik Migara from the right extreme.
