Unruly fans force Army-Police soccer match to be abandoned

At a soccer venue where soldiers andpolicemen were present to support their teams, the Holcim FA Cup quarterfinalencounter between Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Police had to be abandoned after63 minutes of play due to unruly behaviour from a section of the crowd.

The match was played at the CityFootball Complex on Sunday.

It is reported that stones werepelted into the playing area minutes after a goal scored by Policemen wassignalled off side. The Soldiers were leading one nil through a goal scored byA.B. Warakagoda.

When contacted an official of theFootball Federation of Sri Lanka said that they are awaiting a report from thereferee as well as officials from both sides to have a thorough inquiry heldbefore taking a decision.
