Olympic team not tested for doping
The Director-General of the Sports Medicine Unit Prof Arjun de Silva stated that doping tests were not conducted on the Sri Lankan contingent for the London Olympics. This was disclosed to the media at a briefing held in Colombo recently. He further added that this situation arose as most of the team members were out of the island on training missions. “Though it was necessary to do this test we failed to do it due to the above reason,” said Prof de Silva. “But we are confident that our team will not come under any problems on the doping issue,” he said.
This briefing was held by the Sports Medicine Unit to inform the media on the work done by the Unit during the past six months. The media briefing was attended by the Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Doctors from the Sports Medicine Unit, Dr. Seevalee Jayawickrama, Dr. Lal Ekanayake, Dr. (Mrs.) Shiromi Pilapitiya and Australian physiotherapist Shane Vent.
