SLAA officials not considered for London Games
The International Olympic Committee has delayed the approval of the newly elected officials of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association according to reliable sources. With this situation the IOC has not allocated passes for the present officials to attend the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. Instead it had allocated it to the former officials.
The invitations were received by the former President of SLAA Major
General Palitha Fernando and former secretary G.L.S. Perera. Fernando said that he was to visit London for the Olympic opening ceremony but it was not on the invitation received from IOC.
According to unofficial reports the IOC is not willing to accept the newly elected
officials at the May elections. They have stated that the elections were not conducted in a proper manner and are preparing to inform the Sri Lankan authorities to have a new election. This decision is expected to be delivered after the London Games.
It is rumored that this could be the most probable reason for the IOC
not to consider sending invitations to the new set of officials.
Meanwhile, the present secretary of SLAA Rear Admiral Shyamal
Fernando has made it to the London Olympic Games representing the Sri Lanka Rifle Shooting Association and accompanying shooter Mangala Samarakoon.
