Jayawardanapura U. Clinches Men’s, Women’s Title

Jayawardanapura University excelled to bag both men’s and women’s titles at the inter university hockey championships 2012 worked off at Rajarata Campus ground in Anuradhapura over the weekend. Centre half and skipper Dilan Niroshana powered Jayawardanapura University to wrap up the men’s title with a one goal to Nil Win over fancied Peradeniya in the final.

After a scoreless first half, Niroshana made his way through the tight cordon of Peradeniya University defenders to slam in the winning goal shortly before the final.

Mens Champions Jayawardanapura University men’s team (GK)

Jayawardanapura University lasses outplayed Peradeniya University 2-1 on penalties I the final to annex the women’s title in the inter university hockey championships concluded at Rajarata Campus ground over the weekend.

Both teams having scored a goal each, Kokila Harshani for Jayawardanapura and Nishamali for Peradeniya, the score remained one all at full time and the final outcome was decided on penalties whereby Jayawardanapura emerged Victors 2-1.

Sanath Jayasinghe and Mangala Karunaratne controlled the final Semi final results Peradeniya bt Moratuwa 2-0 Jayawardanapura bt Sabaragamuwa 3-1 in the decider for the third place Moratuwa beat Sabaragamuwa 2-0.
