A. B. de Villiers blasted 30 off 13 balls to guide South Africa to a 32 runs win in the rain affected World T20 match, played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Sooriyawewa, on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 79 runs in seven overs, Sri Lanka was restricted to 46 for five wickets before a disciplined South African attack.

Only Kumar Sangakkara (13) and Dilshan Munaweera (13) reached double figures but their contributions were well below par by the standards of this game.

The South Africa skipper slammed two massive sixes and a boundary. He was largely responsible for extracting 27 runs in the two overs bowled by Lasith Malinga.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field after a pouring rain consumed two and half hours of play. The hosts showed a stunning display of fielding skills to restrict South Africa for 27 runs in the first three overs.

Munaweera flung himself into the air and grabbed a spectacular catch to dismiss Richard Levi in the fourth ball of the innings. Fourteen balls later, Sangakkara took a brilliant stumping to dismiss Hasim Amla.

The result of this match will have no bearing on their seeding in the super 8 stage as both teams have already qualified for the Super 8 stage.

Well played South Africa! These guys deserve to win this tournament by the margin of defeat they inflicted on Sri Lanka who still banks on Malinga the dead horse.

Its our true potential…learn to love the reality…we have won most of the matches with luck favoring us….this is the bitter truth..no one is there in our batting camp to clear the rope..some time back there were mighty batters like Aravinda, Sanath,Kalu, Gurusinghe…who was capable of changing the game the way they want with their batting skills….

Dead horse a real one Malinga is, as many teams says they have attacking bowlers who can turn the game around. but as for Malinag he only performs in IPL. he has no variation or strategies what so ever to bowl to batsmen who are attacking. if you look in the past Malinga has been taken for a joke. he should take examples form Styne. a
