A seven wicket haul by Rehan Kavishka helped St. Benedict’s to come out on top against Lumbini MV on day one in their Under 19 match played at Kotahena.

Rehan’s seven sent Lumbini MV reeling to a score of 94 and St. Benedict’s in reply helped by half tons from Dinitha Ratnayake and Dulantha Lewis ended the day in a strong position of 161 for 4.

St. Peter’s fight back

St. Peter’s after being restricted to a score of 143 fought back to grab five Maris Stella wickets on day one of the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter played at Bambalapitiya. The highlight of the first day’s play was an unbeaten knock of 65 by Santhush Gunatileke. Maris Stella ended the day on 94 for 5.

Royal College dominated proceedings against St. Sebastian’s College on the opening day’s play in the Under 19 match played at Reid Avenue. Royal taking first lease of the wicket made a modest score of 227 and had St. Sebastian’s struggling on 70 for 6.

Half tons by Sajith Sameera and Mohamed Shamaz were the highlight of the first day’s play in the match between Zahira and Dharmaraja played at Maradana. Zahira batting first made 204 and Dharmaraja in their turn were 106 for 4.

Siri Piyaratana MMV Padukka was in the box seat and look set to record an early victory against St. Mary’s Chilaw when play stopped on day one in the match played at Padukka. Siri Piyarathana MMV having bowled out St. Mary’s for 94 made 152. St. Mary’s were struggling on 33 for 6 in their second essay.
