Left arm spinner Naveen Gunawardena ended with an impressive match bag of 10 for 69 helping Thurstan College coast to a convincing innings and 59-run win over De Mazenod Kandana in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Thurstan ground on Thursday.

The second day’s play saw Thurstan resuming from their overnight score of 203 for 4 going on to make a score of 262 for 6 declared with overnight batsman Charana Nanayakkara making an unbeaten 51.

De Mazenod batting the second time and left with a daunting task of erasing a deficit of 162 runs failed to achieve it as Naveen who ended with a four-wicket haul in the first innings wrecked their batting again to bundle them out for another low score of 103 runs.

De Mazenod 100 (Deshan Fernando 26, Erosh de Silva 26: Prameesha Dilushan 4 for 7, Naveen Gunawardena 4 for 26) and 103 (Sasan Dineth 49, Avishka Indrajith 23: Naveen Gunawardena 6 for 43, Sawan Prabash 2 for 23, Prameesha Dilushan 2 for 29)

Thurstan (203/4 overnight) 262 for 6 declared (Nimesh Lakshan 85, Sawan Prabash 76, Charana Nanayakkara 51 n.o.: Mithila Geeth 3 for 47, Ashen Fernando 2 for 77)
