Killer Whale, Sirimavo emerge champs

Killer Whale Aquatic Club (KWAC) and Sirimavo Bandaranayake Balika Vidyalaya (SBBV) emerged Men’s and Women’s overall champions at the National Aquatic Championship which concluded at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool on Tuesday.

In the Junior National Championship St. Joseph’s Colombo and Visakha Vidyalaya came out victorious.

KWAC accumulated a whopping 423 points and they were well ahead of second placed Navy SC who were able to obtain only 298 points while St. Joseph’s secured the third slot with 77 points.

The Women’s champions SBBV accumulated 230 points while Mahamaya Kandy came in second with 141 points and Musaeus College took the third place with 122 points.

St. Joseph’s the junior boys champions accumulated 158 points as they pipped Ananda who obtained 150.50 points for the second place followed by Royal in third place.

Visakha Vidyalaya the junior girls’ champions came out easy winners by securing 160 points while Mahamaya Kandy ended second with 91 points and SBVV and Lyceum International School Wattala in joint third place with 74 points.

Meanwhile, two swimmers from the champion KWAC Team, Kyle Abeysinghe who bagged seven Gold Medals and Eshani Senanayake who won six Gold Medals were adjudged as the overall individual champions in the Men’s and Women’s categories.

Another successful swimmer in the Men’s category was Akalanka Peiris of St. Peter’s College who won three Gold Medals.

In the junior category, Shevinda de Silva from the champion St. Joseph’s Team and Shenal Weerawansa of Ave Maria Convent Negombo carried away the Best Swimmer Awards in the Boys’ and Girls’ categories respectively.

Ramudi Samarakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya had a successful finish in the junior girls’ championship when she won six Gold Medals.

(Girls’ Junior Nationals): 1. Visakha Vidyalaya – 160 points, 2. Sirimavo Bandaranaike BMV – 91 points, 3. Lyceum International School, Wattala – 74 points, 4. Mahamaya College, Kandy – 74 points, 5. Holy Family Convent – 52 points

(Boys Junior Nationals): 1. St. Joseph’s College – 158 points, Ananda College – 150.50 points, 2.  Royal College – 76 points, 4. Gateway International – 65.50 points, 5. St. Peter’s College – 65 points.

(Women’s Senior Nationals): 1. Sirimavo Bandaranaike BMV – 230 points, 2. Mahamaya College, – 141 points, 3. Musaeus College – 122 points, 4. Sri Lanka Navy – 112 points, 4. Visakha Vidyalaya – 109 points

(Men’s Senior Nationals): 1. Killer Whale Aquatic Club – 423 points, 2. Sri Lanka Navy – 298.50 points, 3. St. Joseph’s College – 77 points, 4. St. Peter’s College – 56 points, 5. Lyceum International Wattala – 45 points.
