Dinesh Chandimal cracked a 54 ball 75 to steer Wayamba United to a comfortable 14 runs win against Ruhuna Royals in the SLPL match played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, on Sunday, August 26. Thus, Wayamba United dashed Ruhuna hopes of reaching the semi-finals of inaugural SLPL and paved the way for Nagenahira Nagas to be in the top four.
Chasing a difficult target of 163, Ruhuna Royals were restricted to 148 for 9 in 20 overs. Left hander Lahiru Thirimanne was the only one to resist with an unbeaten 40 in 34 balls with three hits to the rope.
Electing to bat first, Wayamba United took a bold decision to open with Chandimal and the 22 year old responded superbly with a swashbuckling 75 with 11 boundaries.
Chandimal and Tamim Iqbal plundered 66 runs in 45 balls before Chandimal taking control of the situation.
Ruhuna bowlers did well to control Wayamba hitting in the latter stages of the game, with only 21 runs coming in the last three overs, yet proved too much for them.
